How many units / retatrutide / not FDA-approved

How Many Units Is 12 mg of Retatrutide?

12 mg is a dose used in clinical trials of retatrutide. The math is: divide 12 mg by a strength in mg per mL, then multiply by 100 to get units on a U-100 insulin syringe. At a made-up strength of 5 or 10 mg/mL, the result would be more than a 1 mL syringe holds. At 20 mg/mL it’s 60 units. These are made-up examples, not instructions for any vial. The published TRIUMPH studies used 12 mg as a target dose, reached by stepping up over time. But retatrutide is still being studied and has no approved product strength. A page that shows units can’t prove that a research product is legal, sterile (germ-free), effective or available. Every number here is for learning about the trials and the math. None of it is a prescription.

How U-100 syringe math works, using doses from clinical trials as the example. Whether a dose can be read exactly depends on the lines printed on the U-100 insulin syringe.

A U-40 or other syringe would give a different draw for this 12 mg Retatrutide example.

This page answers the 12 mg Retatrutide example; use the strength printed on your label.

Still being studied: Retatrutide is not FDA-approved. We're not saying it's available or that anyone should use it.

Your numbers

If the label gives a total mg and a total mL instead, divide the mg by the mL.

Syringe size and line spacing

The syringe's barrel or packaging says 0.3 mL, 0.5 mL or 1 mL (or 30, 50 or 100 units).

Where 12 mg fits in the trials

In the TRIUMPH trials, study groups aiming for 12 mg stepped up every 4 weeks: 2, 4, 6, 9, then 12 mg. Some TRIUMPH groups continued beyond 9 mg to 12 mg. The study dose is different from a labeled medicine strength. This is background from published trials, not an approved schedule.

Brand-name products

No brand-name product gives this amount. For retatrutide, that’s expected. It is still being studied, is not FDA-approved, and has no approved product.

Questions about 12 mg

Is 12 mg an approved retatrutide dose?

No. This page uses 12 mg, a dose from published clinical trials, only as an example for U-100 insulin syringe math. It is not part of any approved schedule.

How many units is 12 mg at the example strength?

At 20 mg/mL, 12 mg is 60 units on a U-100 insulin syringe. Whether that can be read exactly depends on the lines printed on the syringe.
