Wegovy Pens: Doses per Pen, Pens per Box, HD, and Tablets

What Wegovy comes in

Single-dose injection pens come in 0.25, 0.5 and 1 mg per 0.5 mL, and 1.7 and 2.4 mg per 0.75 mL. There is also a 7.2 mg per 0.75 mL pen, sold as Wegovy HD. In the US, 7.2 mg is an approved maximum dose for weight loss in adults. It’s for people who have handled 2.4 mg well for at least 4 weeks, when more weight loss is medically needed. Wegovy HD only comes as a single-dose pen. There is no syringe or FlexTouch version.

Single-dose syringes have the needle built in. They come in 0.25, 0.5 and 1 mg per 0.5 mL, and 1.7 and 2.4 mg per 0.75 mL. FlexTouch is a pen for one person only. It holds 9.6 mg/3 mL and gives four 2.4 mg/0.75 mL doses. The prescribing information (the official label) says FlexTouch is not recommended for people who are visually impaired to use on their own.

Wegovy tablets are a separate form: 1.5 mg, 4 mg, 9 mg or 25 mg tablets in bottles of 30. You swallow them. Nothing is drawn into a syringe.

Dose increases, injection sites and missed doses

The injection schedule on the label is: weeks 1–4 at 0.25 mg, weeks 5–8 at 0.5 mg, weeks 9–12 at 1 mg, weeks 13–16 at 1.7 mg, then the dose you stay on (the maintenance dose) from week 17. If a dose increase isn’t tolerated (the side effects are too much), the label suggests waiting 4 weeks before that increase. For weight loss in adults, the dose to stay on is 1.7 or 2.4 mg, and 2.4 mg is the recommended one. Other uses of Wegovy have their own details on the label.

For injections, the label lists the belly (abdomen), thigh or upper arm, and says to switch spots with each dose. If you miss one injection and your next one is more than 2 days away, take it as soon as you can. If the next one is less than 2 days away, skip the missed one. If you miss two or more injections in a row, the label talks about starting again at a lower dose and stepping back up. Missed tablets work differently: skip the missed tablet and take the next one the following day.

How to store it

Keep single-dose pens and syringes in the fridge at 2–8 °C (36–46 °F). If needed, before the cap comes off, they can be kept at 8–30 °C (46–86 °F) for up to 28 days, in the box and away from light. Keep FlexTouch in the fridge before first use. After first use, it can be kept for 56 days at 15–30 °C (59–86 °F) or in the fridge, with no needle attached. Store tablets at 20–25 °C (68–77 °F) in their original bottle, away from moisture.

Doses per pen, pens per box and needles

A Wegovy single-dose pen gives one dose. The dose is already set and the needle is hidden inside. The instructions say not to take the pen off your skin until the yellow bar in the pen window has stopped moving. Each single-dose pen is thrown away after use.

Single-dose pens and single-dose syringes come in cartons of 4. Wegovy FlexTouch comes as 1 pen per carton and gives four 2.4 mg doses. NovoFine Plus 32G 4 mm needles come with FlexTouch, and NovoFine Plus, NovoFine or other compatible needles up to 8 mm long can also be used. Use a new needle each time. If the FlexTouch dose counter stops before 2.4 mg, there isn’t enough medicine left for a full dose, and the instructions say to throw the pen away and use a new one. After all four doses, some medicine may still be left in the pen; the instructions say to throw it away anyway.
