Zepbound Vial Doses: 50 Units on a U-100 Syringe

Every Zepbound single-dose vial holds one 0.5 mL dose. On a 1 mL U-100 syringe, that is the 50-unit line. The milligrams change with the vial strength, but the liquid volume does not.

Zepbound single-dose vial strengths

The table uses the six single-dose vial presentations in the product data and calculates the syringe draw from each labeled strength.

Every row is one single-dose vial. The liquid volume is 0.5 mL in every row.

Choose the vial strength on your label

The six single-dose vial strengths are 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10, 12.5, and 15 mg in 0.5 mL. Every row in the table draws the same 0.5 mL volume. The mg amount changes because the strength in mg per mL changes. Use the vial your prescriber ordered.

A 1 mL syringe capable of measuring a 0.5 mL or 0.6 mL dose is described in the prescribing information. The single-dose vial instructions give 1 mL syringe and needle as an example and say to use what your healthcare provider recommends. The syringe and needle are not included.

Drawing from the vial

The instructions describe drawing 0.5 mL of air into the syringe, pushing that air into the vial, and pulling the plunger past the 0.5 mL line. Push back until the plunger tip reaches the 0.5 mL line. For help identifying the line, see how to read an insulin syringe.

After use, the instructions say to throw away all opened vials, even if medicine is left in the vial.

Vial, multi-dose vial, and KwikPen

A single-dose vial is one 0.5 mL dose drawn with a syringe. The multi-dose vial and the single-patient-use KwikPen each contain 2.4 mL and give four 0.6 mL doses. The 0.6 mL amount is 60 units on a U-100 syringe, so it is not the same draw as the single-dose vial.

The KwikPen is its own delivery device. Its instructions say not to transfer Zepbound from the pen into a syringe. This vial page does not treat the KwikPen as a syringe source.

Storage

Keep unopened Zepbound single-dose vials refrigerated at 2 to 8 °C (36 to 46 °F). An unopened vial may be kept at room temperature up to 30 °C (86 °F) for up to 21 days total. Do not freeze it. Keep it in the carton. Follow the label for the vial in front of you.

Common questions

How many units is a Zepbound vial dose?

Every Zepbound single-dose vial dose is 0.5 mL. That is 50 units on a 1 mL U-100 syringe, for every single-dose vial strength.

Which syringe do I use with Zepbound vials?

The prescribing information says to use a 1 mL syringe capable of measuring a 0.5 mL or 0.6 mL dose. The instructions for use say to use a 1 mL syringe and needle as recommended by your healthcare provider. The syringe and needle are not included.

Can I use the leftover medicine in a vial?

No. The instructions say to throw away all opened vials after use, even if medicine is left in the vial.

Is the Zepbound vial the same as compounded tirzepatide?

No. Zepbound is a brand-name, FDA-approved product with fixed labeled strengths. Compounded tirzepatide vials vary and are not FDA-approved.
